Meta stocks have grown near 5x since.
So now that Apple's in the game, there's competition now. Is it time for the VR-verse to happen? I don't think so, at least, not in the way that Zuck and Tim Cook are thinking. I think we are 10-20 years too early. People are saying the introduction of Vision Pro is the equivalent of the iPhone moment; the beginning of a massive paradigm shift. That's the wrong analogy because we're not as far along in VR development as we think.
I think the more correct analogy is that the Meta Quest 3 is more like a Commodore 64 and the Vision Pro is like the very first Macintosh. One is a games machine with computing capabilities and the other is a more serious productivity computer in search of users. But both are still technologies that haven't matured. There's still sooooo much room for improvement from pass through and low light tracking to alleviating motion sickness. Even the shape of the VR headset is up for debate. Goggles or sunglasses? Heavy or light?
VR/AR etc. has to go through quite a few more iterations before it can become like the smartphone. The NES to the Playstation, the iMac to the Macbook, the PC desktop to the gaming laptop, MySpace to Facebook, XBOX Live to Steam, hulking CRTs to flatscreen monitors, the Gameboy to the Switch, the Nokia 3310 to the Blackberry, dial-up to broadband to Wi-Fi to 5G, the Palm Pilot to the tablet, the Discman to the iPod and so much more had to happen before we got the iPhone moment. At the end of the day, VR headsets don't matter that much. It's only the beginning.
I know this is old but i just wanted to say that in the duration of your video i was harrassed by far more google ads that interrupted my user experience than I have ever been interrupted by with any Meta platform. No doubt the user data collection is going to be next-level creepy, but honestly i think just about any other company would do it worse than Meta will.

Lets say it costs 500$, I still will resist using it. It will hurt my vision on long term use, and will isolate me. Technology shouldn't interfere more in our social life, they already screwed alot of it

I will say, watching the Super Bowl in my own private theater through the Quest 3 was absolutely worth the experience. Now they just need to focus on making it more comfortable.
Meta will become the Nokia of vr. They’re not experienced at tech yet.
This MKBHD video is a perfect recommendation after the lunch of Apple vision pro.
1. need to be able to see clear and super sharp the room at deam light
2. need to be sharp from edge to edge and not just where you focus at.
3. need to be slim like RudyProject / Oakley sunglasses
4. Need to be safe for eyes since lcd is 1 cm from the eye . Macular degeneration.
5. Needs to be able to localize screans all over the world ( city at any country) from home and from a trip .Once you go there again or for the first time screens are already waiting for you at specific locations. Pinning.
6. Can block UV.
7. Can see clear at night like with night vision googles.
8. Have very long battery life.
I think it is going there and will replace T.V and Computers and smartphones .
No one .. its not Ready Player One, and I would never trust them with my Meta data… 🙂

I personally predict that neither VR nor AR will take-off at all.
Commenting a year later since this video was uploaded and it's crazy to see the changes that have occurred since. Apple unveiled Vision Pro and has just been released to the public for purchase. Since Feb 8 2023 to today Feb 8, 2024, Meta stock has climbed 154%. Disney just pumped $1.5 bil into Epic Games. WB has entered a joint venture to create a metaverse called 'Readyverse' with Ready Player One author Ernest Cline. The metaverse is at it's inception still and there's a ways to go before it's adopted and used regularly with everyday people, but we'll get there "because of the economics" according to Matthew Ball. Just the idea of what it looks like when we get there is anyone's guess. Similar to defining what 'the internet' is back in 1995 and the way somebody might describe it today.
coming back to this video after Apple vision pro, it's good to see more competitors for the development of the metaverse
After watching the new Apple vision pro review video, then watching this. I can see the HUGE advancement in only a year. Interested in seeing the experience in the next 5-10 years.

Meta Money might not make it a reality but Apple Vision Pro did it in one day. It's not a fault of MKBHD it's just that Apple is good at finishing line and hyping up things, clean, and spotless.
Dude makes succinct claims when reviewing other VR devices but goes head over backwards when Apple Daddy comes calling

People need to realize, there is no metaverse in ANY WAY yet. we are MILES from one. FB metaverse is a tiny little multiplayer crap looking 3D world. basic basic stuff, we have video games with WAYY more people in it and WAYYY more advanced.
The REAL metaverse is a seamless world filled with tens of thousands – millions of people all sharing the same world. Where you have a home, you head out to shop, play games, work…. The people that will actually build it will be gaming companies like EPIC GAMES. We will use META devices but other way more capable people will build the worlds.
15:11 funny enough that's what apple is doing 1 year later and the most recent meta quest 3 doesn't have eye tracking, they have other stuff yea but the money they make for now is all on subscriptions and you will feel that with apple vision pro
